As a special treat, we went for tea and cake at my favourite little tea shop in Dundee this week. As always, the carrot cake was deliciou s, the tea piping hot and the company tiptop… the tableware however, was a little tired and sad. Clunky off white ceramic pieces, mass produced and with no soul and only the odd tea stain as décor. Boo, I shed a small tear.

It makes me a tad sad when super cool little restaurants and coffee shops spend so much time and careful consideration on details such as the menu, the ingredients, the interior design, then throw it all away when they serve you up your Lemon Meringue pie on a tired old white plate, or god forbid, a paper napkin.

It’s like playing badminton with a plastic shuttlecock; it’ll do, but it’s not great.
