Tattoo Project – update 15th May 2009

The first initial drawings for Richie from Edinburgh's tattoo.
Launched back in February, my tattoo project is well underway and this week I completed the first of the prelim sketches. Read more about how the project began here.
Richie and I met up back in March and had a wee chat about all things tattoos. I'll be designing a motif which has a lizard as the main element, surrounded by rambling foliage and blossoms. I'll be creating something beautiful, yet unique, with Ritchie specifying that the flowers have to "look like they might bite you" - attack of the Triffids anyone?! I've gone for kind of spikey take on a Japanese Orchid.
These are just the first prelim sketches. Today, I'll be sending them through to R and asking him to circle all the areas and ideas which he likes and crossing off any bits which he isn't so keen on. The idea is that we work collaboratively to ensure the final artwork is exactly what he's looking for.

Once I have R's feedback, I'll take all the bits he's happy with and redraw the motif to combine them into one final illustration. There's a fair way to go yet, with many tweaks and alterations, but ultimately, we'll end up with a cracking little lizzardy drawing which he can then have inked onto the back of his calf.
