The 21hour day and repetitive strain injury to my right arm was all worthwhile though, as now all the gorgeous new pieces are printed, signed and ready to hit the road on their rock and roll launch tour!
I'm beginning to learn most things involving Mr V are a little on the extraordinary side, so I wasn't surprised to hear we were bumping the bored old format of a gallery launch night with obligatory chitter chatter and a few glasses of generic plonk, for a nationwide traveling show, hosted by our friends at über cool hotel chain Malmaison and Hotel du Vin.
To mark my collaboration with Heartbreak, I've made a bit of a departure from my signature black and white palette, but still kept things stripped back and grayscale. Peking has been transformed into a sumptuous print in slate grays and chalky off white; bold and graphic, the new hues have given it a cool air of sophistication. New work Heartbreak is showcased in both a mirror of this tonal palette and in a striking crimson and ebony combination - a show stopping piece to celebrate this exciting new venture.
And if you needed any further persuasion, I'm super thrilled to be showing for the first time prints with a Diamond Dust finish. This is real ‘hold your breath its so darn pretty" stuff. Delicate frostings of crushed glass embellish the finished prints, creating a shimmering sparkle which could melt the hardest heart (no pun intended).
A nod to my Aberdonian roots, the combination of monochrome and sparkle bears a striking resemblance to the Granite from which my hometown is built, extracted from the Rubislaw quarry just a stone's throw from where Malmaison Aberdeen now presides.
Intrigued? Want to know more? Well you'll just have to wait!
We are currently arranging the first photography shoot and will have some images online as quickly as our nimble fingers will allow. In the meantime, be the first to see the new prints in their inky, sparkly glory on tour.
The Heartbreak tour kicked off last night at Hotel du Vin in Poole and will be meandering its way north to the final venue of my hometown of Aberdeen, showcasing new works published by Heartbreak and a retrospective of Jack's work. To mark the end of the launch tour, Jack is hosting a Vettriano Dinner on Friday 14th August at our very own Malmaison Aberdeen. As you can imagine, it's a bit of a swish doo, but if you fancy coming along and indulging in some good food, good wine and good art with us, get in touch with Heartbreak here.
The Heartbreak tour will be visiting the following hotels:
• 15th - 19 July 2009 : POOLE Hotel du Vin
• 23rd - 26 July: LONDON Malmaison
• 30th July - 2 August: OXFORD Malmaison
• 6th - 9 August: MANCHESTER Malmaison
• 13 - 16 August: GLASGOW Hotel du Vin
• 13 - 16 August: ABERDEEN Malmaison
The artworks will be displayed throughout the public areas of the hotels with viewing open to the public and hotel residents, so pop in for a coffee or cocktail, or treat yourself to a weekend away, just don't miss out! All artworks will be for sale, with special offers available on purchases made at the venues themselves.
And a cheeky little tip: anyone staying at participating Hotel du Vin or Malmaisons whilst the exhibition is on, will receive a complimentary glass of wine in the bar by quoting the secret password ‘Jack' when they check in!
