Joy of Living for Maggie’s

Late last year a mysterious brown paper envelope appeared on my doormat from design writer and curator, Max Fraser. Inside, a letter from Max introducing his most wonderfully inspired fundraising project entitled ‘Joy of Living‘ in aid of Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres.

In a bid to raise £50,000, Max sent a plethora of Creatives a brown paper envelope containing a sheet of A4 graph paper. The brief was simple; to create something on or from said paper. No guidelines, no themes; just create.

Turn’s out Max’s little black book did him proud! From Tord Boontje, Tom Dixon, and Terence Conran, to Giles Miller, Donna Wilson and Hannah Martin – the length and breadth of the design industry answered Max’s call to arms and submitted a graph paper piece. All the artworks will be exhibited at Somerset House this month and will be sold to raise funds for Maggie’s. Each is priced at £250, whether created by upcoming little hopeful or heavyweight design superstar. What’s more, the name of each creator will not be revealed until after the sale.

(Can you spot my one?!)

I’m delighted to have contributed an image to this most worthy of causes. Maggie’s is a fantastic organisation doing incredibly inspired work to help people at the most challenging of times. I’m very pleased to have had the opportunity to be a part of something so brilliant.

Finally, take a peek at this little film all about the project, with Max introducing and explaining the concept (and check out that calendar print on his office wall – nice huh?!)
