Another week, another country and another trade show! Finally, after a whirlwind of trade-show mania I headed back to my little studio in Dundee this weekend. Last week was Indigo at Premiere Vision, Paris and the launch of my debut collection of prints for fashion. Working exclusively in black and white raised a few eyebrows, “do you have anything in colour?” No! I certainly do not! With stand after stand of studios presenting jam packed rails of multi coloured prints, all in next season’s predicted “hot trend colours” Indigo was a jamboree of pattern and print – how the buyers managed to navigate their way through it is mind boggling. With so much competition, it seems natural that you have to do something different and unique to stand out, attempting to blend in with the crowd and provide designs that fit the commercial cut-out seems ludicrous....read more.

Premiere Vision (which hosts Indigo) is a Heavy Weight trade show…imagine 6 packed interlinking exhibition halls all of this scale. This image reminds me a little of the warehouse scene at the end of Raiders of the Lost Arc…. the show is so big, the organisers scoot about on little electric bikes and I saw one cool customer making his way down the aisles on a skateboard! Last day of the show today, so I’m packing up my black and white wonderland once more and heading back to Grande Bretagne. More updates from the show to come…...read more.

One down, one to go! 100% Design closed on Sunday evening at 6pm, so I rolled up my black and white papers, tucked them under my arm and hopped on a plane to Paris - where a mere 12 hours later, I was scrambling up a ladder once more to install Exhibition Number 2, Indigo at Premiere Vision....read more.

Welcome to my Black and White Wonderland. For 100% Design I present an ever-growing monochrome experience of floor to ceiling drawings; over-sized botanics and tangles of foliage with a smattering of beasties and butterflies lurking in the undergrowth. An eye-popping oasis of organic inspiration in gargantuan proportions. A continually developing installation, the artwork gradually creeps across the entire surface of the stand over the duration of the show....read more.

After a frantic Sunday afternoon spent scrambling up wobbly ladders and battling with heavy-duty staple guns, the Musa wallpaper was finally installed! The Black and White Exhibition of 11 artists’ works in monochromes opened on Monday night in Aberdeen’s coolest little venue. The show was sponsored by BrewDog, Aberdeenshire’s Mega Microbrewery and we celebrated the first day of the show with bottles of their award winning Punk IPA, wrapped up in my monochrome labels. The 8 meter long strips of hand printed wallpaper were draped from the lofty beams of the converted church roof to form a canopy of black and white with a dash of berry red, this was pattern on a grand scale and with an evangelical twist. Also in the show are 6 of my limited edition black and white prints, presented in classic pale wood frames and hung in upstairs in the Musa Mezzanine. ...read more.

I escaped the studio this morning to visit the Homes and Interiors Scotland Show at the SECC in Glasgow (this was my first time driving on the big scary roads to Glasgow..thank goodness for Sat Nav!). I just had time for a quick scoot around the show, but by far the best bits were the Homes and Interiors Showcase, with selected bits and pieces from the best UK Designers, including my good friends Jethro Macey, James Design and Annette at ATA Designs. The Craft Scotland stand was also a hive of activity, with a selection of the best new graduates work in their New Talent Showcase, as well as the first showing of the Limited Edition Collection, for which I had produced the Midsummer Green and Gold Cuckoo Clock and the Tiger Lilly Print. ...read more.

This week in the studio I’ll be printing up super sized panels of wallpaper for the Black and White exhibition at Musa in Aberdeen. Along with the 8 meter long drops of hand printed wallpaper which are being hung floor to ceiling in Musa’s dramatic converted Church backdrop, I’ll be showing 6 of my new framed limited edition prints. The show is being sponsored by super cool Aberdeenshire brewery, BrewDog, so to celebrate, I’ve created an extra special black and white beer label which will be featured on bottles of Punk IPA at the opening night Private View....read more.
