Joy of Living for Maggie’s

A few weeks ago I posted about a brilliant project by Max Fraser which I was invited to take part in, raising funds for Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres. Read more here.

Initially, all the submitted artworks were posted anonymously – both in the online gallery and at the exhibition in Sommerset House. I’m delighted to now reveal that my contribution to this super cause was Number 003 : Rorschach’s Carnival! In typical inky style I hand drew my submission, reverting to a sheet of greaseproof paper from the kitchen to get the symmetry right – proper low-fi creativity!

The Joy of Living

Max rang me last week at the close of the exhibition to say not only had my piece sold on the first day, but that it had also won the Public Vote Award! So thank you to everyone who voted and selected my work as their favourite, I feel super honoured to have had my inky illo picked out from amongst all those brilliant artworks. The award came with a £500 prize which I’ve donated to Maggie’s.

As an illustrator, I’m acutely aware that I’m not about to stumble upon the cure for cancer or negotiate a deal to end third world debt, so it’s wonderful to have opportunities like this where I can use my skills to do some good and make a contribution.

The exhibition is now over but I know Max has further exciting projects in the pipeline, so keep an eye on the Joy of Living website. In the meantime, there’s a donation page should you also wish to support this wonderful cause.

A huge well done to Max for masterminding The Joy of Living, the time and energy taken to orchestrate such a successful and inspired fundraiser must be staggering.
