Day 1 – STAEDTLER DESIGN JOURNEY COLOURING PENCILS 72

I LOVE Staedtler art supplies as you know. The Design Journey 72 set is a great price for a wide range of colours, come in a nice tin which protects them and are good to shade and blend with. Other Staetler alternatives that I really like are the Ergosoft range and also the Super Soft Design Journey pencils.

Day 2 – CASTLE ARTS GOLD 120

The Castle Arts Gold are super nice pencils to colour with – richly pigmented and soft enough to blend but also hard enough that you can sharpen them to a good point for all the details… and you get a huge 3 layer tin for £54.99 at the moment (usually £89.99!).

Day 3 – PRISMACOLOR 72

I’ve heard a rumour that the Prismacolor 72 set I have has since been discontinued, which is very sad indeed as these pencils are a delight to colour with, so soft and malleable for bending. If you didn’t manage to get your hands on these before they disappeared, it looks like the 48 set here are what Prismacolor are replacing them with. This feels like something Emily Illustrator would have all the intel on!!

Day 4 – FABER CASTELL POLYCHROMO 120

We couldn’t have a tour without featuring a fancy tin of Polychromos. These guys are not cheap, but they are the luxury option if you are treating yourself to a tin of pencils and take your colouring seriously! Gorgeous to use, a wonderful range of colours and hours of delight arranging them into rainbow order in the tin!

Day 5 – FABER CASTELL COLOURING PENCILS 72

These are the pocket friendly alternative to Polochromos! The Faber Castell Colouring Pencils are from the same family, but these pencils are a less expensive option. They might not be as soft and highly pigmented as the fancy big sister pencils, but they are a cracking option if you are just starting out and want a wide range of colours to blend and shade with.

MAGICAL WORLDS is out October 2024!
